Summaries and diagrams
You write a good summary in your own words, with the book closed. A diagram shows how the parts fit together. Words and pictures together help everyone.
Why
Jonas copies out his geography chapter almost word for word. It takes him two hours. Why does he still know so little afterwards?
Copying happens by itself: your hand works, but your head does not have to choose. A real summary makes you decide what the core is and say it in your own words. That thinking is exactly what makes you learn.
A diagram helps in a different way. It shows how things are connected: what is cause and what is effect, what belongs together. Words and a picture together give your memory two roads to the same knowledge.
You may have heard that everyone has their own learning style, visual or auditory. There is no good evidence that teaching in your style works better. What does work, for everyone: words and pictures together.
